MEET YOUR MINDFULNESS GUIDE
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much,” said Helen Keller. Cliché? Maybe. True? Absolutely. Compassion and wisdom already exist within you, and while you could connect with your inner power and practice mindfulness on your own, together we can go further, with a bit more ease (and perhaps even some joy).
Before you embark on your journey—whether through MBSR, coaching, or other services—take a moment to learn more about the person who will be there to support you every step of the way.
Hi, I’m Brena Bessa.
I’m an MBSR teacher with over 15 years of meditation practice.
My mindfulness journey began in college when I stumbled upon an email about a weekend meditation workshop. I had no experience, but something about it caught my attention, and I signed up. I imagined myself leaving the retreat calm and zen, like a monk in a magazine photo. Instead, my mind was spinning with thoughts, my legs kept falling asleep, and I could barely sit still. I kept wondering when it would be over.
And yet, something about the practice stayed with me. I kept showing up, and over time, the teachings started to land. I realized the goal wasn’t to feel peaceful all the time—it was about learning to be present with whatever was happening, like riding the waves rather than fighting them.
Over the years, I deepened my practice through Vipassana meditation and Buddhist study, attending my first silent retreat in 2010 and completing a transformative 3-month residential retreat in 2015. Inspired by the profound impact mindfulness had on my life, I went on to train as a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher, completing my certification through Brown University in 2021. I continue to grow as a teacher through ongoing training, mentorship, and silent retreats.
Mindfulness has supported me through the full spectrum of life’s joys and challenges. It’s an honor to share this work and help others discover their own inner resources for balance and well-being.
